Technical Safety Consultant


London, Aberdeen, Glasgow- UK / Principal Flow Assurance Engineer / Energy / Experienced / Salary Package as per experience / Permanent / Urgent / Job Ref : SMADR

  • You will be accountable for provision of process safety engineering advice and support on all aspects of onshore and offshore operations, projects including new developments, and to ensure Technical Safety Engineering discipline regulatory and company standards compliance, optimum business performance and appropriate levels of discipline engineering capability.
  • You will be the primary contact for project related Technical Safety Engineering and Process Safety, including local regulatory bodies (HSE, DECC, SEPA, etc). You will also be the focal point on Major Hazard issues for the project, setting standards, providing guidance and support on the assessment and management of major hazards. Includes the coordination of continuous risk reduction plans for major accident hazards, Project TA for Major Hazard documentation and management and maintenance of the Major Accident Risk assessments for the project.
  • Prioritise and support process & technical safety reviews, including Major Accident Risk, QRA, HAZID, HAZOP, Project HSE Stage Gate Reviews and other technical safety related audits and reviews of existing plants and projects.
  • Produce various safety engineering (and legislative compliance) studies. Looking to hear from individuals who have Offshore, Safety, Onshore, Oil and Gas, HAZOP, HAZID, Risk Assessment, and Risk Analysis experience. Conduct risk assessments and risk reviews in accordance with existing procedures. Represent the safety team at kick-off meetings, progress and design review meetings for the project or change proposal designs. Preparation of CTR estimates for the safety engineering studies. Delivering quality, cost effective and timely engineering services in a demanding environment of change, short interval planning and conflicting priorities.
  • Participation in incident investigations and provide root cause analysis support particularly where technical and/or process safety issues are involved.
  • Support Safety Case Maintenance. The development of technical safety engineering and process safety aspects of major projects in the oil and gas industry or related industries.Essential Qualifications:
Essential Experience:
  • Thorough understanding and application of quantified and qualified risk management techniques including specific scenario modelling. Experience of facilities design and analysis is essential incorporating knowledge of
  • topsides & sub-sea facilities, pipelines and controls, etc. Skilled in the application of Microsoft office systems. Appropriate number of years experience working in the technical safety engineering or process safety disciplines of projects or onshore/offshore oil & gas operations
  • HND or equivalent in appropriate Engineering subject The ideal candidate will hold an Msc in Safety Engineering/ Risk Management and ideally looking to work towards becoming a chartered member of a recognised body, e.g IChemE, IMechE etc. You will also have the right to work in the UK either by EU citizenship or Tier 1 Visa. Degree in a scientific or technical discipline.
Desirable:
  • Capable of generating a co-operative team based culture for groups under his / her control. Knowledge of personal issues and aspirations of subordinates. Able to lead in motivation, training and ongoing development of subordinates.
  • Able to perform a major role in setting group / discipline objectives.
  • Highly experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise. Experienced in the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation.
  • Highly experienced in the use of design and assessment methods used within discipline including theoretical background for analysis programs. Key attributes being sought from experienced applicants should be focussed around risk management and could include experience in topics such as HAZOP, HAZID, FMEA, FTA, QRA, ALARP Demonstrations, SIL assessments, Fire and Explosion Risk Analysis, Safety Case Development, etc. Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting.
  • Competent in commercial contractual and administrative aspects of engineering. Experienced in estimating man-hours and materials for most aspects of work.
  • Experiences in working with other disciplines and sections to meet delivery dates Highly experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work.
  • Experienced in design safety / environmental requirements, procedures and responsibilities for both self and subordinates Competent in leading, supervising and the organisation of a small / medium sized single discipline team within a project
