VIO Surveyor

Our client is looking to recruit additional Vessel in Operation Class surveyor to provide Classification & Statutory Certification services. Candidates will also be expected to undertake UK Safety Case Verification Activities.

Our client’s current contract portfolio includes long term contracts with International Oil Companies, Drilling Rig owners, Ship Owners and equipment vendors / manufactures. Most of the activities undertaken will relate to in-service surveys; however some minor vessel conversion work will be expected. Opportunities for site / offshore will also exist, both in the UK & abroad.

Previous experience and knowledge of Ship Rules & Offshore Codes / Standards is an advantage, as would specific experience in any of the following technical areas:

  • Ship Surveys in accordance with Classification Rules / Statutory (IMO) requirements.
  • Drilling Semi-Subs, Drill Ships, Jack –ups.
  • FPSO’s
  • Drilling & Well Control
  • Independent Competent Persons (ICP) activities according to the UK Offshore Safety Case Regulations
  • Floating Offshore Installations – Design, Construction, Hook-up and Commissioning.

Responsibilities
You will be part of a team of multi-discipline Engineers with the following duties and responsibilities:

Conduct Surveys on both Ships and Mobile Offshore Units.
Classification /Statutory Certification Surveys and Assessments.
Project management and Customer interaction (to a level dependent on previous experience).
Provide professional guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced. Verify and check the work of other Engineers as applicable.
Ensure that all project deliverables such as reports, certificates and contractual agreements are submitted in accordance with our client and their respective client expectations.
Ensure Project Management procedures and adhered too. Ensure that projects are priced correctly are well managed and that they achieve target returns.
There will be a requirement to carry out occasional surveys of Offshore Installations.

Qualifications

Our client is looking to recruit a Principal or Senior Project Manager to their Major Projects Section to further develop & deliver, Classification, Independent Competent Person (ICP) and verification services in accordance with UK Offshore Safety Case Regulations. The section also offers similar services to Division Europe and North Africa customers.

The Services
Provide Classification, Verification and Independent and Competent Person (ICP) services, to scrutinise the Design, manufacture & installation of client major (CAPEX) projects. As a Verification and ICP body, our client is expected to provide suitably qualified discipline engineers who have the ability to assess the suitability of the Project to verify and confirm that the design, construction and installation are suitable in accordance with defined Performance standards.


Responsibilities
The candidate will be required to Manage Verification Projects up to a value of £2,000,000 and be able to lead a team of Engineers drawn from our Major Projects Section and Offshore Department. Considerable interaction with the client and internally within the organisation will be required, therefore good professional communication skills are essential; duties typically will be:

• Project Management of Project(s) up to a value of circa £2,000,000.
• Communicate and liaise with Client and Project Team.
• Agree and set project goals.
• Develop procedures and processes to deliver the Project(s) in accordance with agreed goals.
• Manage the financial and commercial aspects of the Project to ensure success.
• Lead Project Team(s).
• Assist with technical Review of engineering designs against defined performance standards.
• Manage and carry out manufacturing, site & installation surveys.
• Assist with development of verification schemes for the projects in accordance with UK Legislation.
• Advisory services to customers in regulatory compliance and safety management.
• Assist Head of Section to grow the business and to recruit and develop discipline Engineers.
• Assist Head of Section in Marketing of the service.

Qualifications
Your education, skills and experience will include, but may not be limited to:


  • Relevant Engineering Degree (e.g. Mechanical, Structural, Naval Architect, E & I).
  • Post graduate qualification in Project management would be beneficial although not essential.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience in Project Management of Oil & Gas Installation construction, Pipeline and Subsea Engineering or Verification.


Experience in below areas considered an asset:

  • A minimum of 10 years knowledge and experience of Project Management, Verification and/or design, fabrication & installation of Offshore Structures, Modules, pipelines and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of UK Safety Case legislation, its implementation and interactions will be an advantage but not essential. Training will be supplied.
  • Knowledge of International and Offshore Codes and Standards, in particular those relevant to Offshore Oil and Gas Installations.
  • Familiar with requirements of the EU Directives.

Structural Design in particular of Offshore Structures.
Structural Design of Subsea Structures.
Design of Lifting devices & Offshore Containers.

Have an understanding of FEA and be capable of using FEA analysis tools.
Have an understanding of Dynamic Loads on offshore structures.
Be familiar with Structural Codes and standards e.g. AISC, Euro Code 3, BS5950 and/or DNV Offshore Standards.

  • Preparing and managing qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, ranging from hazard identification, HAZOP, FMEA, human error review, design basis assessment, PSA, development of SFRs, design substantiation, ALARP assessment, through to safety case writing.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of standards, methods, data and use of appropriate software.
  • Producing formal technical reports, HSE Cases and other project deliverables on time and to budget.
  • Managing and developing clients.
  • Developing new business.

Essential requirements:
·         Engineering or Science degree.
·         At least 3 years relevant industry experience.
·         Good working knowledge of practical risk management tools and techniques.

Major Duties
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the successful candidate will be part of the Regional Management team and play an active role in leading and managing marketing and business development activities in the India focusing on both maritime and oil & gas sectors.
In his/her position, he/she will
•Participate in Divisional Marketing & Business Development network and take directions from the Regional Manager and work closely with the divisional & regional Market & Business Development Director and area managers in the India.

•Conduct Community of Practice meetings involving CSMs for key/target clients on a regular basis to ensure implementation and monitor CSMs plans while exchanging best practices within the community
•Help plan marketing and profiling activities within India e.g., participation in conferences, exhibitions, industry events, regional technical and other committees etc.
•Act as a conduit to build and exchange CSM best practices between oil & gas and maritime areas internally apart from exchanging information that are relevant for both sides
•Gather, monitor and share market and competitor related intelligence within and outside region
•Continuously monitor the needs of the market and help the operational management to device and package new/existing services
•Carry out all of the above by consistently implementing regional operating plans in accordance with the framework in our strategy plan through the Budget, DMS, KPIs and other directives given by the Divisional/Regional Management team.
 Qualifications
A Master degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Post graduate degree in Marketing will be an advantage
