Nuclear Safety Engineer


Glasgow/ Oil and Gas /10 Yrs+/ Salary Package as per experience /Permanent/Urgent - SR1 - 20

Our Client is seeking highly motivated, dynamic and influential individuals to work effectively and collaboratively within their existing team. You will be required to work closely with consultants within our other UK offices, and possibly our overseas offices, to deliver effective company-wide solutions to our clients. You will have a good understanding of the technical, engineering and/or operational issues fundamental to safety and risk management as applied within the nuclear industry. In addition, you will have excellent organisational, personal time management and communication skills. Duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Providing technical safety support and advice to clients [initially focussed on ensuring the safe deployment/use of safety critical equipment within nuclear power stations].
  • Preparing and managing qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, ranging from hazard identification, HAZOP, FMEA, human error review, design basis assessment, PSA, development of SFRs, design substantiation, ALARP assessment, through to safety case writing.
  • Producing formal technical reports, Safety Cases and other project deliverables on time and to budget. 
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of equipment designs and configurations.
  • Supporting effective ‘management of change’ for safety critical equipment. 
  • Managing and developing existing, established client relationships.
  • Essential requirements:
  • Engineering or science degree.
  • At least 3 years relevant industry experience.
  • Good working knowledge of practical risk management tools and techniques.
  • Good practical knowledge and experience of engineering systems [design or operation, ideally covering mechanical and electrical (control) elements].
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Practical and common sense approach. 
  • High level of computer literacy.
Beneficial requirements:
  • Experience of working within UK Nuclear Generation Industry.
  • Experience in production of Nuclear Safety Cases. 
  • Risk Management Consulting experience. 
  • Project Management experience.
  • Experience in production of non Nuclear Safety Justifications [COMAH Safety Report, Oil & Gas HSE Case etc.].
