Mechanical Supervisor-Field

Job Description 

  • Through observation, record review and inspections, ensure that all mechanical equipment and systems meet regulatory and company requirements. 
  • Ensure mechanical maintenance is performed in accordance with company policies and procedures, equipment manufacturer's recommendations, the Rig Operating Manual, and regulatory requirements and codes. 
  • Monitor repairs and rebuilds to ensure they are performed properly, safely, and economically.
  • Oversee modifications to mechanical equipment; ensures modifications and new equipment are approved according to the company policies and procedures before operation. 
  • Ensure rig drawings are kept up-to-date. 
  • Oversee troubleshooting and repair of equipment, directly or through subordinates. 
  • Perform periodic visual inspections of equipment and review diagnosis of actual and potential malfunctions; ensure potential hazards and abnormal operating conditions are addressed quickly, and that any deteriorating conditions are reported to the rig management. 
  • Ensure general maintenance, operation, and repair records and documentation are kept accurate and up-to-date. 
  • Periodically review equipment logs to ensure operating and maintenance standards are maintained. 
  • Provide direction to facilitate decisions on priorities of repairs and preventative maintenance activities. 
  • Produce weekly mechanical maintenance report and provide recommendations. 
  • Oversee implementation of the Preventative Maintenance System (PMS). 
Safety 
  • Ensure adherence to company safety and maintenance policies and procedures. 
  • Participate in the Safety Training Observation Program (S.T.O.P.). 
  • Participate in the weekly and operational safety meetings. 
  • Oversee implementation of Job Safety Analyses and hazard assessments. 
  • Carry out inspections and audits according to the Quality Management System requirements. 
General Management 

  • Monitor the Maintenance Department budget to ensure cost effective operation. 
  • Hire direct report. 
  • Ensure the roles, responsibilities, authorities, accountabilities, and performance measures of direct report are defined, understood, and enforced. 
  • Establish goals and priorities with direct report. 
  • Establish a system of accountability and monitors the performance of direct report. 
  • Review rig maintenance performance against performance measures; establishes initiatives with the team to achieve goals and objectives. 
  • Assess the competencies of direct report, and work with the individual to enhance required competencies. 
  • Develop and implement mechanisms to achieve effective communication, coordination of effort, information flow, and learning with direct report. 
  • Conduct and oversee performance and salary reviews with direct report on a timely basis. 
  • Ensure a high level of productivity, teamwork, and employee satisfaction within the mechanical maintenance team. 
  • Authorize work permits for the mechanical maintenance crew per company policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure effective communication with rig management and onshore personnel. 
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with the Permit to Work System. 
Other 
  • Participate as a member of the rig's Emergency Management Team to advise the PIC on the technical aspects of any emergency. 
  • Participate in drills and exercises as an emergency team leader. 
  • Assist in rig moves as required. 
  • Perform other duties and special projects as requested by management. 
Qualifications 

Education:
  • Associate's degree in mechanical technology or related educational equivalent from an accredited technical school, trade school, or institute is required. 
Professional Experience: 
Skills: 
  • Must have 5 or more years of experience as a mechanic, as well as offshore experience.
  • Strong experience in hydraulic systems is required. 
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings is required. 
  • Bi-lingual is preferred (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese) 
  • Verbal communication skills necessary.  
  • Ability to interact with individuals in a cross-cultural environment. 
  • Leadership and employee development skills. 
  • Team oriented. 
Licenses, Certifications, Credentials, and Other Requirements: 

  • Offshore survival and medical certificates as mandated by government regulations are required. 
  • Certified in all required safety training programs, including but not limited to underwater safety, fire fighting, and helicopter underwater escape. 
  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
